Quickie
No time for musings this week! On with the show.
Reading
I’m cheating a bit this week and it’s more a recommendation than what I’m reading. My favourite book last year was The Frozen River (please don’t let the title turn you off) and I recommended it to a friend and she loved it and asked for something similar and I remembered how much I love The Giver of Stars. It’s historical fiction, women on horseback, travelling library kind of deal. You’ll love it, trust me.
Watching
After watching One Battle After Another we’ve been on a major Paul Thomas Anderson bender. In the last week we’ve watched Punch Drunk Love, Licorice Pizza (v cute) and Magnolia. I somehow have never seen Magnolia and I’ll be honest it was a bit of a let down. It’s way too long, it’s bleak as f*ck and it’s not funny at all. I think it’s an important film to watch but honestly it’s just not what I expected. Having said that Tom Cruise is brilliant in it and I need way more information as to how PTA got him to be in an ensemble piece like this, it seems very off brand. Julianne Moore is fabulous as a Glamorous Woman Having a Nervous Breakdown. Magnolia crit aside, can highly recommend a PTA film fest. Punch Drunk Love is as close to a perfect film as you can get.
Listening
Little Shop of Horrors. The kids’ room was turning into a biohazard so we did a disco tidy, where we pump some tunes and tidy while we sing. My little one started bellowing ‘Suddenly Seymour!!!!!!’ and it was magic. It lasted about 2.5 songs before they started whining so I’ll clock that up to a win.

Wearing
We had 7 days of high 30s temps last week so I haven’t worn anything very exciting but here’s 2 outfits I snapped. One was worn for donating plasma, but I didn’t end up donating. I got right to the chair and their head office called and said it had become too hot for anyone to donate so I had to leave. Bummer. The other outfit was for pootling around with the kids after school, library, ice cream. The usual.
Eating
Hear me out - pressure cooked shredded chicken. I’ve been bunging a big batch on at the beginning of the week and popping it in salads and sandwiches. Such a winner.
Doing
We went canoeing on the Murray on the weekend with some friends and it was utterly delightful. Then we had a BBQ and did mini-river floats. Kids were cooked that afternoon and went to bed without a peep. Can recommend.
What I don’t recommend is sunscreening your legs and then pulling up your pants half way down the river. Weirdest sunburn ever.
We’re off camping in the caravan this weekend. Delightful.
Hope you have a rad weekend.
See you next Wednesday.

Not that I need more books to read, but I've got holds on both of your recommendations :-) And yeh, weird sunburn. I once burnt just my knees (sitting on a bench with a skirt to cover my thighs and tall socks to cover my calves). Was awful, could barely sit at work and cried all the way to the beach for a swim to get some relief.
The chicken sounds like a great idea! Are you using thighs? And any fav flavours?
