You know when one of your friends gets sick? And you text them and you go ‘Oh you poor thing! That’s so dreadful. Now listen to me you beautiful land mermaid - you REST UP QUEEN! GO lay on the couch, let your partner deal with dinner, and let the kids watch TV all afternoon. You are no help to anyone unless you rest and heal! I adore you, you’re amazing, literally the greatest person on earth. K thnx bai.’
But when YOU get sick you invoke the power of a personal loophole. The rest and recuperation is for everyone else but not for you. So you continue to do all the things you usually do while you're high-key dying but you refuse to rest. Because it’s a personal loophole that applies only to you.
So we all have personal loopholes. We’re all sneaky little self sabotagers and half the time we don’t even realise we’re doing it. The extra fun part about personal loopholes is that they come in many different forms. Procrastination, harmful self-talk, impulsivity.
So how do we go about breaking the cycle of self-sabotage?
